Dr. Ajay Bakshi is a leading gastroenterologist in Montgomery County who has been in private practice for over four decades. He serves as Chair of Gastroenterology at both Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring and Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, and maintains expertise across the full range of gastroenterology and liver disease, from heartburn to hepatitis.
His practice focuses on colon cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis, and advanced endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound and biliary endoscopy. He partners with patients through every step of their care, so each treatment plan is made with a fully informed patient in the decision-making process.
A graduate of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, he trained at Stony Brook University Hospital and the University of California, and completed his fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He holds four board certifications: Internal Medicine (1979), Rheumatology (1982), Allergy & Immunology (1985), and Gastroenterology (1989). He lives in the Washington, D.C. area with his wife, Gita, a pulmonologist, and their two children.
